Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.” ~ Isaiah 53:4-5
As many of you know, we have a child that is deaf, or also known as hard of hearing. He was born this way, and it really upsets me when I hear about this faith teaching. I have seen so many hurt by the “church” because they called out as not having enough faith to get healed.
Since the age of 3 months old, our son Christian has worn hearing aids. We were asked whether we wanted him to have them as soon as possible or to wait till he was older to make sure that the testing was correct. Our thinking as parents is to provide every opportunity that will help our son, to him. He has been dedicated and baptised into the body of Christ, and yet he wasn’t healed. We have had many many many pastors over the years lay hands on him and pray for healing, and his hearing got worse. Is that a reflection on our faith for his healing?
Charlie Shamp came to Melbourne, and my husband said we need to go and take Christian. He has an incredible gifting from God to heal people and you never know, was what Rhys told me. So we went, Charlie called out to all those that were deaf or had hearing issues to come to the front, Rhys grabbed Christian and raced to the front. He prayed for many people, people to the left were healed, people to the right had whole eardrums rebuilt. Christian didn’t change. Did this mean we had no faith?
I get so angry when I hear that message that you have to have faith to be healed. But if Christian had been healed, we wouldn’t be part of an amazing community of people. The deaf community is an amazing supportive group and we have met some people who have accomplished many things even though they are deaf.
So do we need to look at it with not black and white eyes, but in rainbow colour. That even if he wasn’t healed than was it because God has a bigger plan. His rainbow to us, a promise He will always be there.
Don’t ever let anyone tell you that you don’t have the faith to be healed, I have seen people on the street, prayed for and received healing and they didn’t even know God. So why them and not our son? Because there is a bigger picture
Don’t let the negative rob you of your rainbow, your blessing.
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be. How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand— when I awake, I am still with you. Psalm 139:13-18
You can’t argue with that, sometimes we are just made the way we are because God wants us that way. So lets be the best people we can be and shine our light into the world.
