Onions

God has really been speaking to me lately about restoration healing. Within the last week, I have had two conversations that have come back to this. It’s a bit like an onion.

Having young children, one of their favourite movies is Shrek. Shrek is walking through an onion field talking to Donkey about how Ogres have layers. Just like Onions.

So, let me paint you a picture. Conversation number 1.

I was talking to a lady about how she had taken in a married couple, she had opened her home to them for a small amount of rent. This couple are currently doing an internship at a church, and had been paying to stay at a hotel, so this lady had opened her home as a Christian.

Matthew 25:34-36

Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave Me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave Me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took Me in, I was naked and you clothed Me, I was sick and you looked after Me, I was in prison and you visited Me.’

However, it has kind of gone pear shaped for her. This couple have barely said a word since moving in and have been basically making the homeowner so uncomfortable that she doesn’t want to be at home. Now, you would think that being part of a Christian church program that this couple would treat people with respect and curtesy (Christ like). It broke my heart to hear the way this couple have spoken to her and it really makes me mad.

Conversation number 2

I was talking to another lady about how we had met on Facebook via messenger. I love these connections, I had to apologise as I am shocking with names and had forgotten hers. However, we were chatting about a mutual friend “Jane” had gone in a different direction. She explained to me that she connected with “Jane” because they had had similar hurts but were working through rejection hurts. But as time went on, this lady found more and more times that “Jane” had other agendas and ideas that were a little concerning. So, the friendship grew apart. They were both attending church.

It really got me thinking, how many of us are like onions. So many layers to peel back to get to the Christ like centre. Sometimes God shows us we need restoration for rejection or past hurts, so we deal with it and peel off that layer. Sometimes, we have to keep peeling back that layer, we think that we have dealt with it, but then it pops it’s head up again. Its like “Oh Boy, not again. Didn’t I deal with that last time” So Onions.

Then, I got thinking

How many times have we seen Christians act holy and “Church like” at church but when they get home they turn into different people. It’s a bit like when you are in a hurry to do the housework as you know that “Sally” is coming for a coffee and you haven’t had a chance to clean. How often do we do the “Quick surface clean” so that it looks clean, but really the crazy hectic pile of unfolded washing sitting on the bed can’t be seen. It is kind of like these Christian, that look like they are clean, prime and proper but really underneath have so many other issues that really should have been dealt with, like that pile of dirty laundry. My husband would say “Going to Maccas doesn’t make you a hamburger, just like going to Church makes you a Christian”

We need to stop pretending, stop pretending to be perfect. Stop pretending that the house is clean. How can we make ourselves better if we already think we are perfect? I can tell you now, I am not perfect. I strive to be like Jesus, but like an onion, it is taking those layers off that will help. We need to remove the layers that are holding us back, and then only, then can we slowly start to see God for who He is. Some of those layers are hard to shake and hurt, but its like a well of water. Hard work to dig but once you finished the water of life is replaced with the dirt.

Restoration is so very important for prophetic people, you should never prophesy out of hurt. Its all about Love, if you don’t have love than you will be a clanging gong. Restoration is Key.

God Bless,

Ruth
