I was chatting to a friend yesterday who I hadn’t heard from in a while. I saw her online and decided to give her a wave. It is so unlike her to be quiet as she is one of the most passionate Christians I know. She is a fire cracker and I love hearing her stories of how she is doing street evangelism with the local food bank during the late nights. I love hearing God using her passion to save others.
As I was talking to her, she started to tell me she felt like she had lost her passion. Lost her way, she still loves God but the rest is just mmmmmmmm.
I said to her, welcome to the club!! Being in ministry is hard and draining on both the physical and spiritual levels. We have times where we have been battling for so long, that we just need to step back and into our secret place with Him. Her reaction surprised me, she had no idea that we have times like this.
It is so important to step back at times and have God time. Rhys and I have a relationship where it is God first, family second and Kingdom Warriors third. Not saying that Kingdom Warriors isn’t important but too many pastors and mighty men and woman in God don’t allow time for Him. They get burnt out and go from being a blazing fire to sending a smoke signal.
Being on the front line of ministry, we are battle worn. We need time to spend with Him, to get our wounds healed, to get revitalised and ready for the next mission He send us on. The most important thing is to realise that time with Him isn’t withdrawing from the fight, its about taking time to go the distance. Like in a boxing ring, they have time out, we all need it.
Matthew 11:28 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”
We need to learn that it is okay to have times where we just need God and to let others take the reins for a while. Our relationship with God is most important, He will always give us the strength and wisdom for the next step, we just have to learn to take time to be with Him in our secret place.
