Proverbs 18:21 ” The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences.”
I find that writing helps to get out what is going on in my head. Over the last week, there has been so many times where words have been a factor.
Yesterday, I found out a childhood friend had passed away. Its sad as he was one of a kind, type of guy. He grew up with my brother and I, living in a small country town. He got married, he drove trucks and had two beautiful daughters. But what hurts the most is that he took his life because he listened to the lies of the enemy. Yes, I knew he had separated from his wife, but I never took the time to say “Hey, how are you going?” we often get so wrapped up in our own lives to see another’s hurt. I only pray that he has found the peace he was so desperately needing.
We don’t often realise how much we affect those around us. I was at the shopping centre yesterday waiting on Rhys to finish seeing the Doctor. I stopped to check a message on my phone and Emily was interacting with a lady sitting there, by herself. We started talking and she showed me pictures of her grandkids. She kept telling me “if you have time” I said I am in no rush, but how many times has this lady heard, “I don’t have the time”
When Rhys found us, he said to me as we were leaving. Do you know that lady? I said, No, it just happened that she was lonely and looking to chat to someone. I took the time to look at the photos and listen to her. I said to Rhys “I might have made her day, I might have given her the smile she needed” I will never know, but God knows. I love those times, God using you for His roles.
So where am I going with this? Well firstly, take time. Take time to love those around you, take time to say Hi. I caught myself realising last night that it doesn’t matter how dirty my car gets if my son wants an ice cream, take time to love the fact that he wants an ice cream.
Secondly, speak words of encouragement and life. How often we forget to be positive. Like a child learning to walk or read. The positive encouragement makes them try harder. So lets be life givers, not takers.
Lastly, Love. Love those around you. Never forget about the Love of God.
Now off to spend time with my family, creating memories
